Stress Relief – Get out of stress instantaneously! from Joe Rare on Vimeo.
Emails poured in the other day after my tweet and facebook post about stress. I think I may have hit the nail on the head for a few people or even a lot of people. We tend to live in a society full of chaos and therefore a lot of stress in our lives. When you step back and think about it though, why? Is there a reason that the chaos of the outer world, other people, other events and all of the dramas of our lives, cause us stress? Then even further, what does stress do to us? What does it to our body, our health and our life?
First let’s start with what is stress? Webster’s defines stress as 1. a specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with normal physiological equilibrium of an organism.; or 2. Importance or significance attached to a thing. There are a few others, but these fit this subject of discussion the best. The problem with these definitions is that they don’t explain why or how we get stressed. What causes the stress to form? What triggers it? Why does it become physical in our bodies? So many questions and then where to find the answers.
Deepak Chopra has a fantastic definition of stress which is what caused this entire rant that I am writing now. He says, “stress is only our interpretation of physical or psychological threat. It’s not in us, it’s not in our environment, but our interpretation of what we think is happening to us.” Wow, that hits the nail on the head. Stress is what we do to ourselves, not the other way around. When we blame our moods, our “break-outs,” our poor communications, our anger or discomfort on stress, we actually need to take a deeper look and notice where it’s really coming from. We are creating the very thing in our physical and mental body that we complain about, that is causing our heath issues and total unhappiness. We take the events of the outside world and give meaning to those events that doesn’t serve us. It’s time for a change.
Now we have determined that we cause our own stresses, so how do we make the change and get out of stress and into relief? Well, you’re probably not going to like the answer because in our over complicated world and pill-popping practices, there isn’t anything that can give relief except yourself. To get relief we must DECIDE to receive it. Make a decision to change the meaning you are giving to the events in your life. If the meaning you are attaching to an event is not making you feel good, then change it. That probably sounds overly simple and impossible to most, but life really is that simple. There are biochemical responses that the body releases due to specific emotions. When we create theses stresses our bodies release hormone into the body; dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol. This also causes things like breathing and blood flow (blood pressure) to change which dramatically change your physiology and the overall performance of your bodily functions from digestion to immune system and also the breakdown of the body.
Stress is not just something we have to deal with, it MUST be controlled. We must make changes in our body to ensure we remain healthy. With the increase in these hormones and the above problems (which are only a few of the many) that come with it, this forces our metabolism to get out of balance. Our moods change and we are not clear in making decisions, therefore we cannot make the right choices for optimal health. Stress also creates acid in your system and therefore causing your body to use alkaline stores and mass amounts of water to flush the acid. Excess acid causes your body to hold fat as a buffer to protect arteries and vital organs. Want to lose weight? Learn to control your stress.
How? You might be asking how to make this shift and go from stress to relief in a moment. Here it is, watch the video above:
